The Ben Alford Family Union was organized in 1973 at the funeral of Mother Gertrude NeSmith Lane held at County Line A.M.E. The following districts were created over a period of time: County Line District (Home Base), South Florida District, Newark New Jersey (East St. Louis, Illinois) District, Vero Beach District and Atlanta District. The first family reunion was held at the County Line A.M.E. Church in Hahira, Georgia.
The family reunion was hosted by the County Line District for many years before it was moved and hosted by the Florida District. The following two years, it moved again and was hosted by the Newark, New Jersey (East St. Louis, Illinois) District. The reunions were held on a rotating two-year basis convening the weekend following July 4th. The business meeting was held every odd year on the 4th Saturday in October in the City of Atlanta. Also, a short business meeting was held on the Friday morning prior to the in-person family reunion. Since COVID, the business meetings were held virtually, and this has continued.
